Frequently Asked Questions
Does stripping metadata reduce image quality?
The process uses HTML5 Canvas to redraw the image at high quality (95%). Visual difference is negligible, while EXIF text data is entirely destroyed.
Which image formats are supported?
Currently, we support JPEG and JPG files, as these are the primary formats smartphones and professional cameras use to embed GPS and camera EXIF data.
Does the metadata scan catch everything?
The scan checks the standard EXIF segment for GPS, dates, camera and shooting info. Some editing tools also store data in XMP or IPTC blocks, which this quick scan doesn't read — that's why stripping is still worth running even when the scan shows nothing.
Is my location data sent to your servers?
Absolutely not. ToolXero is a serverless utility. All operations occur within your own browser's sandboxed environment.
